Who’s running the project?
The Nottingham College My World My Home team is led by first years; Finn, Katie & Tiff, and second years; Olive, Shakella & Zara.

What are they focusing on?
The team are channelling their My World My Home energy into tackling the issue of waste and plastic pollution across Nottingham City, after surveying 140+ people across their community, and found that concerns over lack of recycling and plastic pollution were the most pressing environmental issues to them, alongside worries about climate change and deforestation.

The students decided to tackle the waste and recycling system in Nottingham, and target one supermarket chain to reduce the plastic used in their stores, as these issues were pf personal concern to them and their experience of living in Nottingham- and they believed they could make an impact in these areas in the 6 months of the project.

How’s it going?!
As of the end of January, the team have :
1) Listened to their community
2) Chose their aims
3) Mapped their surrounding community

… the team went to meet some of their City Councillors at one of their weekly council surgeries! The team had prepared research about the state of recycling in Nottingham, and suggestions they had to make recycling communications inclusive to residents who don’t speak English as their first language.

The team were successful in securing a following meeting with the environment lead of the council to escalate their ideas for improving the amount of waste that can be recycled in Nottingham, and how to better engage the community with recycling and waste!

Let’s see how far this can go…
